Calla Lily for Christmas
Created on 5/20/2009 9:51:14 AM by Alan Bluett.

December brings a good supply of one of our country’s most famous crops, the calla lily (zantedeschia). To target the Christmas market there are this year excellent supplies of red callas, primarily “Majestic Red” but also good quantities of “Dominique” (pictured), “Chianti” and “Red Sox”. These are popular with buyers all over the world and we recommend you order well in advance to avoid disappointment.

There are other colours available too including cream, yellow, gold, orange, pink and the award winning black calla “Hot Chocolate”. All our callas are graded in 10cm increments from 30cm to 80cm, our packing has evolved over the years to ensure no damage in transit, and the crops are carefully managed to avoid any pest infestations.

Also in time for Christmas we have limited quantities of the world’s most popular white oriental lily, “Casablanca”. Originally bred in New Zealand this product has large heads and strong stems and travels well. It is graded by head size into 2, 3, 4, and 5 bud so there are grades to suit any market. Quantities are very limited so early orders are advised.

Other crops that will be of interest for Christmas include white hydrangeas, red kangaroo paw, red and green hanging amaranthus, and red and white peonies. The peony season is coming to a quick end, so check with exporters first before placing orders.
